Several approaches to the equinox determination of the radio reference system are treated. They all have in common the utilization of radio interferometric methods, especially of Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI). It is concluded that radio interferometric observations of extragalactic radio sources have proved to be a powerful tool to establish a radio reference system at the 0.001 arcsec level.
