We report the detection in the millimeter wavelength range (1.3 mm-3.0 mm) of hydrogen and helium recombination lines from the planetary nebula NGC 7027. Previous detections of such H and He lines from the NGC 7027 were made in the centimeter wavelength range (1.4 cm- 6.1 cm).
The theoretical model of Masson (1989) as fitted to the H II continuum in the centimeter wavelength range is shown to be consistent with our recombination line observations at millimeter wavelengths. We derive a large microturbulent velocity (about 17 km s-1) affecting the width of the recombination lines, in addition to the thermal broadening at 14500 K and to the shell expansion at 17.5km s-1.
A detailed search for carbon recombination lines has been made at millimeter wavelengths toward the outer, cold, molecular shell of NGC 7027. Only upper limits were obtained, after 16 h of observations.
