Earth Interior: Motions
Scientific paper
The problem of a fundamental geophysical experiment designed for measuring free and forced motions of the Earth's solid inner core by using a system of two widely spaced vertical pendulums is considered. Problems associated with the organization of this experiment, as well as the noise level (which determines the sensitivity of the method) are described. It is shown, that the experiment is possible. Necessary prerequisites for its realization are availability of an underground gallery about 1 km long and sufficiently sensitive instrumentation for creation of the geophysical monitoring system.
