The ratio of signal-to-noise ratio of trailed to untrailed slit spectra
is calculated as a function of the amount of trailing and the magnitude
difference between sky and object. An optimum trailed length exists for
objects which are bright enough. In general galaxian spectra are not so
successfully trailed.
