The possibilities that vacuum oscillations or matter-enhanced transitions of the solar neutrinos are at the origin of the solar neutrino problem are discussed. The first results from the GALLEX experiment and the latest Kamiokande data together with the data available from the Homestake, and SAGE experiments are used to derive the regions of values of the neutrino oscillation (transition) parameters for which the hypotheses of vacuum oscillations or of matter-enhanced transitions of solar neutrinos allow to describe the solar neutrino observations.
