Scientific paper
During 1965-1969 we obtained at the Tonantzintla Observatory a large number of multiple exposure photographic plates where 78 new flare stars were detected. In this work we present identification charts for the 254 known flare stars, we discuss some of the most significant characteristics of these type of objects in Orion, and compare the flare stars in Orion to flare stars in other stellar aggregates. We tentatively indicate the approximate ages and extreme ages of the flare stars in Orion. We propose the hypothesis that certain stars of late type in this stellar aggregate have been formed during different generations in a time interval of at least between ˜ 5 x 10^5 and ˜ 5 x 10^7 years.
