The lack of comprehensive data sets for rovibrationally inelastic cross sections and rate coefficients has been a serious limitation to developing astrophysical models. In particular, the investigation of non-local thermodynamic equilibrium effects for extrasolar giant planets and stellar atmospheres requires H, He, and H2 collisional excitations data of the dominant absorbers such as CO, H2O and TiO. In this work, we report our progress on full close-coupled cross sections and rate coefficients calculations for the collisional excitation of CO by He impact over a wide set of rovibrational states and an extended range of temperatures. The results are compared to previous calculations limited to rovibrational transitions between low-lying states. The critical issue of the reliability of different He-CO potential energy surfaces is also addressed.
