Stars: Evolution Of, Convection, Clusters: Globular
Scientific paper
The theoretical evolution of centrally helium burning stars has been revisited, including the most recent updates in the input physics. The importance of classic semiconvection is found diminished, but the so called breathing pulses phase is still present. It is argued that it is physically incorrect to omit this last phase in the evaluation of the horizontal branch evolutionary times. Unfortunately, the present theoretical scenario does not seem to adequately fit globular clusters observations. Some tests accounting for massive overshooting and for the molecular weight barrier are also performed.
