In the fully-stripped cosmic rays, the electron capture decay of ^54Mn (τ_1/2 = 312 d) is suppressed. The β half-life has not been measured in the laboratory, though some limits have been place on it. However, by requiring the manganese cosmic rays to have the same propagation history as the lower mass cosmic rays, we find this half-life to be 1.1 (+0.3,-0.2) Myr. This is consistent with earlier estimates, but still requires laboratory verification.
