Strings appearing on spontaneous symmetry breaking of the SO(10) grand unified theory are examined. It is shown that when the breaking proceeds via SU(4) × SU(2)L × SU(2)R, strings that form become the boundaries of domain walls. On the other hand in the breaking via SU(5) based on a 126 Higgs field, stable strings appear that may provide the basis of a theory of galaxy formation.
