Previous studies have indicated the existence of high-energy (exceeding 100 MeV) electrons in a cone of pitch angles forbidden for direct-albedo particles at heights of 200-500 km above the earth's surface. The cone of forbidden angles can be filled by albedo electrons, having arrived at a given longitude due to longitudinal drift (such electrons are called quasi-trapped). This paper presents calculations which make it possible to determine the initial conditions under which the quasi-trapped electrons can escape from the atmosphere in order to be registered by satellites at the above-mentioned heights. Particular attention is given to conditions at the Brasilian anomaly, where the most efficient escape of quasi-trapped electrons due to longitudinal drift occurs.
