Low resolution IUE observations of Seyfert NGC 3783 performed at 16 epochs between 1978 and 1982 are presented. Variations are encountered in the line of sight extinction, the emission line strengths, the underlying continuum intensity and the spectral index. A highly significant correlation between spectral index and luminosity, indicative of synchrotron UV emission, is reported. The dominant heating and cooling mechanisms in the continuum emission region are most likely Fermi acceleration and relativistic brehmsstrahlung damping.
