The possibility that vacuum energy may be nongravitating is explored in
the framework of the modified Born-Oppenheimer approximation in quantum
cosmology. It is pointed out that the vanishing of the vacuum energy is
not sensitive to the nature of the supermetric. Some experimental
possibilities are also discussed.
