The stability of planar motion - a one-parameter family of partial solutions of the equations describing the satellite attitude motion in a cicular orbit - is investigated in the linear approximation. The asymptotic formulas characterizing the properties of planar motion with a period substantially greater than the orbital period are derived. The alternation of stability and instability regions is found in the case when the family parameter changes.
