The Tien-Shan effect (first observed in 1972 at the cosmic-ray station
of the same name) consists in the fact that some particle 'avalanches'
penetrate more deeply into the detector apparatus than expected. The
generation of charmed particles is considered as a possible explanation
for this effect.
