The diffraction properties of a continuous external occulting screen with an an unusually shaped off-axis slit displaying the radial region of the solar corona are investigated. It is shown that, in the case of contact at the two corner points of the aperture-forming curves, the efficiency of the screen increases to such an extent that it is possible to use an ordinary objective as the main coronagraph lens. It is noted that the slit can be formed through the use of elastically curved lines.
