The inverse scattering method is used to obtain a class of solutions of
the vacuum Einstein equations describing the space-time following the
collision of two gravitational plane waves. The general features of
these solutions are analyzed in terms of the behavior of the Weyl
scalars, and some degenerate cases are discussed.
