The present study examines the digital synthesis of complex ionograms formed in the presence of a large local disturbance of ionospheric electron density during active injection experiments. The dependence of the ionogram on various parameters of the irregularity is investigated, and the main types and characteristic features of the possible ionograms are determined. Also considered is the optimal positioning of an additional receiver for obtaining ionograms with maximum information content.
