The Delta Scuti variable 4 CVn is an evolved (log g=3.4,Teff = 6900K) multiperiodic Delta Scuti variable. 4 CVn shows a large amount of amplitude variability, while the frequencies are relatively stable (Breger 1990). The star was selected for a major campaign of the Delta Scuti Network for several reasons: to examine the excitation of additional frequencies, to study the amplitude variability, and to examine the existence of combination frequencies, fi - fj. A fourth motivation, was to examine the reports by Fitch (1980) of large amplitudes of 4 CVn at 1.32 and 1.41 c/d (suggesting gamma Doradus-type variability).
