A reflecting off-axis paraboloid is frequently used either to collimate the light from a point source or to concentrate in a point the light from a collimated beam. Because these paraboloids are expensive and difficult to manufacture, a spherical mirror is frequently used instead. The aberrations arising with this substitution are analyzed and evaluated.
