Gravitational Radiation: Detectors
Scientific paper
The sensitivity of a resonant gravitational wave antenna coupled with a capacitive transducer to a current amplifier is written in terms of all the parameters of the system. The matching conditions that must be realized to obtain the maximum theoretical sensitivity are written as a function of the physical parameters of the transducer. It is shown that the energy coupling factor is independent of the mass as well as of the capacitance of the transducer. The only free parameter then, apart from a weak dependence on the material used, is shown to be the gap of the capacitor. This dependence suggests the strategy to be used to obtain the best sensitivity for the present systems.
