Massive young stellar objects are often observed on the borders of Galactic HII regions. The formation of these objects may be due to the ?collect & collapse? process, triggered by the expansion of the HII regions. In 2007 we have used Mopra to study the distribution of the molecular material associated with four HII regions, candidates for the collect & collapse process. Large scale mapping of these regions and of their associated photo-dissociation regions in the CO (1-0) emission lines has shown the presence of layers of collected molecular material surrounding the ionized gas and of bright condensations adjacent to the ionization fronts. The present proposal is aimed at estimating the physical conditions in the collected layers and in the bright cores, in order to determine their evolutionary state and the likelihood that they will form stars. We have selected two of the four HII regions already observed with Mopra, and nine positions in each of them. We propose pointed observations in position switching mode, in a number of molecular lines probing various physical conditions. 27 hours are necessary for this study.
