We propose to investigate five extreme transient and variable sources found in two epochs of the Molonglo Galactic Plane Survey (MGPS), separated by around 15 years. Our aim is to localise these sources with sufficient accuracy to enable deep infrared and optical follow-up, measure their spectral and polarisation properties, and characterise their variability on shorter time scales. This will also allow us to set limits on the number of transients that are likely to be found with future large surveys.
