Stellar Coronae: Magnetic Fields
Scientific paper
A new continuous-state cellular automata model is proposed to describe the non-linear dynamical processes of flaring stellar magnetic fields. The large-scale electric current density is identified as being the only order parameter for this model when the system approaches phase transitions. At the critical state, various measurable quantities are found to exhibit scaling relations. Among them, the frequency distribution of the flare energy obtained from this model is found to be in fair agreement with the currently available X-ray data.
