High resolution spectra have been obtained for a biased sample of 35 red giants, together with medium resolution data for an unbiased one of some 500 objects, in the chemically inhomogeneous globular cluster omega Centauri. The data permit one to examine the abundance patterns of the system, and constrain the roles of primordial enrichment, evolutionary mixing, and the manner in which the cluster formed.
