We observed in 1994 and 1995 the Soft Gamma-Ray Repeater SGR1806-20 in the CO(J=1-0), 13CO(J=1-0), CO(J=2-1), HCN(J=1-0), HCN(J=2-1), CN(J=1-0), CN(J=2-1) lines, using the SEST millimeter radio telescope. We were attempting to estimate the distance of SGR1806-20 as well as to demonstrate the association of a molecular cloud with the optical/X-ray counterparts of this burster. We estimate the distance of SGR1806-20 to ~=4.6-5.1 kpc (1,2). Preliminary results, taking into account the influence of the low energy X-ray counterpart of AX1805.7-2025 and/or the O9-B2 star on the chemistry of the molecular gas, are in favor of an association of SGR1806 with a dense medium. We also present results of bolometer measurements, at 1.3 mm, on the thermal emission of SGR1806.
