The International Space University was founded in 1987 with the vision to become the preeminent institution for interdisciplinary, international and intercultural space education and research. It aimed to provide innovative programs, both on and off the Earth, and to develop and inspire future space leaders. It also aimed to develop a worldwide community functioning as a collaborative network of broadly educated and visionary space professionals. Together with this community, ISU aims to enable the exploration, development and peaceful use of space for the improvement of life on Earth and the advancement of humanity into Space. The paper addresses ISU progress to date, the pedagogical foundations on which its programs are based, and the key space issues that ISU currently addresses with its students and teachers drawn from throughout the world to advance the peaceful uses of space for the benefit of all.
