The effect of radio fade-out on the maximum ionization density of the F2-layer is investigated by comparing the [latin small letter f with hook]0F2 on the fade-out day with that on control days. The daily variation of the deviation [Delta][latin small letter f with hook]0F2, of the fade-out day [latin small letter f with hook]0F2 from the mean, has been studied for twelve fade-outs which occurred during the summer season in 1957, 1958 and 1959 over fairly wide latitudes ranging from the geomagnetic equator to 35°N. The variation in [Delta][latin small letter f with hook]0F2 is observed to show a phase reversal at about 14°N geomagnetic latitude, during the post fade-out period.
