From the FTIR measurement of magnesium-doped germanium, several absorption lines have been observed for the first time. The relative positions of these spectral lines are in good agreement with excitation spectra observed for other well-established acceptor impurities in germanium, which suggests that they are due to a magnesium-related acceptor impurity. Its ionization energy, estimated to be 118.91 meV, indicates that it is a deep acceptor impurity in germanium.
