We investigate charged particle motion in an axisymmetric magnetic field with decreasing mass and charge. A global invariant is derived from the total angular momentum, which is itself no longer conserved. The form of the invariant is especially simple for adiabatic orbits. The results are specialized to charged particle motion in a magnetic dipole, and applied to the motion of charged dust grains in planetary magnetospheres.
