The relationships among the high-speed plasma streams (HSPS), sudden storm commencements (SSCs), and cosmic-ray intensity were investigated using the list of HSPS for the epoch 1978 to 1982 given by Lindbladt et al. (1989). Using the list of SSCs and the cosmic-ray intensity registered at Calgary for the same epoch, their time variations were examined by the Chree method of superposed epoch analysis. Results show that SCC is an essential prerequisite in initiating a cosmic-ray Forbush decrease, while the HSPS alone does not produce a cosmic-ray decrease. A greater decrease was observed when the associated flare took place in a region to the east of the sun-earth line than that in a region to the west of it.
