It is shown that viscous effects associated with friction between corotating and convecting plasmas are amplified in periods when the electric field of magnetospheric convection is intensified. A boundary layer is formed at the boundary of the synchronously rotating plasmasphere, in which meridional and azimuthal currents flow and a velocity gradient is concentrated. The rotation of the plasmasphere produces a plasma concentration distribution that decreases with distance.
