Praesepe, a rich, nearby open cluster, challenges the simple picture of LX dropping steadily as stars age. While it is very similar to the Hyades, the benchmark middle-aged cluster, the two clusters' X-ray luminosity functions (XLFs) are difficult to reconcile. We propose 60 ksec observations of three Praesepe fields to double the number of X-ray detected Praesepe stars and examine radial XLF variations, thereby definitively establishing the agreement (or lack thereof) between the Hyades and Praesepe XLFs. Rotation periods from our intensive optical monitoring campaign will also break the age/rotation/LX degeneracy and calibrate LX as an age estimator for isolated field stars. Only XMM has the combination of soft-energy response and wide FOV needed for this work.
