Some theories for the formation of brown dwarfs require dynamical interactions with young stars in order to create brown dwarfs. The recent discovery of FU Tau, a brown dwarf binary seemingly born in isolation, suggests that such dynamical interactions may not be essential for the birth of brown dwarfs. We propose to verify whether this system formed alone by using XMM-Newton to search for previously undiscovered young stars in the vicinity of FU Tau.
