A SID monitor is a device for detecting X-ray flares which records changes in the intensity of the carrier wave emitted by a distant VLF transmitter and then reflected from the ionosphere. Experience has shown there is a possibility to detect B9 solar flares and stronger (in GOES 14 scale). Carrier waves of transmitters Rhauderfehn (Germany), DHO38 23.4 kHz and power 500 kW, and Isola di Tavolara (Italy), ICV 20.27 kHz and power 43 kW, were used for the observations.
