SCOSTEP has announced global Programme CAWSES-II (Climate And Weather of the Sun-Earth System) for the period 2009-2013 as a continuation of the CAWSES Programme, but with slightly altered theme, which nevertheless covers the main contemporary issues of the impact of the Sun and heliosphere on the geosphere. Its major goal is to significantly increase the level of our understanding of space environment and its impact on life and human society. The programme consists of four working groups whose names are formulated as questions: (1) What is the effect of the Sun on the Earth's climate? (2) What will be the response of the "geospace" to the changing climate? (I am a co-chairman of this working group) (3) How does solar activity affect the "geospace environment"? (4) What is the "geospace" response to the variability of the waves coming from the lower atmosphere? Another component of the CAWSES-II Programme are two sections - (a) Capacity building (support of scientists from developing countries, education and popularization) and (b) Virtual Institute (something like an extended version of a virtual laboratory). More detailed information about the CAWSES-II Programme will be given in the contribution.
