The significance of the cosmological principle in proposing a modified form of the cosmical term representing the vacuum field in the Einstein field equations has been discussed, particularly with regard to the initial stages of the evolution of the universe. A non-singular cosmological model expanding out from the hadron era has been constructed with the help of the modified cosmical term.
