An optical slit spectrum of the recently discovered DA white-dwarf companion to the A2 V star HD 74389 is presented. Fits of theoretical spectra to six observed Balmer lines lead to estimates of Tc = 41,000 (+4000, -1000) K and log g = 7.85 (+0.20, -0.06). The latter implies that the white dwarf does not have a substantially higher mass than the mean for field DA white dwarfs. These parameters lead to an estimated M(v) = +9.4, a value not inconsistent with the assumption that the two stars lie at a similar distance from the sun.
