The possibility of investigating short-period variations of Galactic
cosmic rays (GCRs) on the basis of neutron-monitor data is examined. It
is concluded that the detection of fast periodic variations of GCRs with
periods less than 1 hour is not possible, irrespective of the
statistical precision of the recording instrument.
