Two models in which the material distribution is that of a viscous fluid are considered. The characteristics of the field equations are examined, taking into account the plane-symmetric metric, the energy-momentum tensor for a viscous fluid distribution given by Landau and Lifshitz (1963), and the free gravitational fields. It is found that the kinematic viscosity prevents a disappearance of the free gravitational field, the shear characteristics, and the expansion properties for large values of time.
