The existence of a time-dependent drift of the frequency corresponding
to the peak signal of VLF hiss bursts was established by Vershinina
(1970). In the present paper, a procedure is proposed for calculating
the large-scale electric field of the magnetosphere from the frequency
drift rate of such bursts.
