In the present study of shower development in an emulsion chamber for families of high energy showers, about 1/4 to 1/3 of the penetrating showers with E(gamma) of more than 10 TeV were found to be exotic ones that penetrate down into the lower detector and exhibit self-rejuvenation. In comparison with their simulation, they show stronger penetration than a pure cascade shower, implying possession of a novel gamma-ray source. Microscopic observation in the lower detector confirms young shower cores from such sources. It is suggested that the present phenomena are initiated by a narrow beam involving a hadron in close association with a gamma-ray or an electron.
