Because they should have no detectable photospheric nor chromospheric absorption due to the highly ionized species C IV and Si IV, and because they can be chosen with a high v sin i value, A stars are good candidates for studies of the hot component of the interstellar medium. The authors present the IS absorption observed with IUE towards HD 119921. In particular, C IV and Si IV are detected at high velocity with a column density ratio of 4. Amongst different explanations, these ions could be formed in a passing shock front from a local supernova remnant responsible for the North Polar Spur or Loop I.
