Scientific paper

Theories concerning the geology of the Precambrian period (570 million years ago) are reviewed. Consideration is given to: variations in temperature and their effect on various earth structures during the Precambrian period; the disintegration of the upper layers of the earth core and the development of the mantle and the crust; and the relationship between local temperature fluctuations and the occurrence of metamorphic rocks. The contribution of numerical models and radioisotopic dating techniques to the study of Precambrian geology is also discussed. The time course of temperature changes on the earth during the Precambrian period is shown in a graph.
