A statistical analysis is made of the solar cycle variation of heliospheric quantities observed at 1 AU. Heliospheric parameters are found to show two different kinds of solar cycle variation: the coronal hole cycle variation, which largely determines the output of the mass, kinetic energy, and thermal energy of the solar wind particles, and the sunspot cycle variation, which largely determines the intrinsic characteristics of the solar cycle. The solar wind in sunspot maximum years is found to have lower velocity, temperature, and density, and to be more strongly controlled by the magnetic field, than in coronal hole maximum years.
