The authors present some of the techniques necessary to accomplish optical aperture synthesis in space. The main purpose is to obtain reliable, high resolution images of astronomical sources, in emission lines, absorption lines and the continuum, with high dynamic range. The technique of redundant spacing calibration allows the identification of phase and amplitude errors associated with a particular telescope in an array. This requires the separate availability of the visibility phase and amplitude for all interferometers (telescope pairs). The authors describe this technique and discuss the various issues which determine the design and its feasibility.
