IN a recent flight in a De Havilland `Comet' aircraft, measurements were
made of the chromaticity (colour), luminance (brightness) and
polarization of the sky as observed at heights of 20,000 and 40,000 ft.,
and of the colour temperature and illumination of the sun's light at
40,000 ft. The results are briefly reported in this communication.
