This article reviews the arguments for considering interstellar grains to have a biological connotation. Although space has demanded brevity in presenting the arguments, it is hoped that enough detail has been given for the reader to obtain a sense of their nature and quality. The astronomical observations on which the discussion is based cover the waveband from about 2000 A in the ultraviolet to 100 microns in the far infrared.
