The in situ production rates of cosmogenic radionuclides Be-10, Al-26, Cl-36, C-14, and Ar-39 in quartz were determined using direct measurements, and the production rates for the isotopes of He, Ne and Ar in differnet target materials were theoretically estimated on the basis of available excitation functions. The results were used to obtain the effective surface exposure age and the time-averaged erosion rate. The implications of these parameters for single and multiple nuclide studies are discussed in terms of several erosion models.
