The effectiveness of the solar gravity assist for interstellar propulsion during the later white dwarf stage of the sun's evolution is investigated. For a wide range of star masses, perihelion approaches, and preperihelion hyperbolic excess velocities, it is shown that this propulsion system will be a more effective interstellar booster during this late phase of stellar evolution than it is today. Implications of these results for the spread of intelligence through the Galaxy are considered.
